Safety and Driver-Assistance Features on Honda

When you get behind the wheel of a Honda vehicle, you can rest assured that your safety is a top priority. Every new Honda vehicle comes standard with a suite of technology features known as Honda Sensing. These safety and driver-assistance features help add an extra sense of awareness while you’re traveling and even have the capability of detecting potential dangers so you can steer clear of collisions. If you want to learn more about Honda Sensing, keep reading.

Honda Sensing Features

This advanced suite of safety features can help detect and prevent collisions with other objects, pedestrians, or vehicles. Honda Sensing acts as an extra set of eyes so you can be confident when you’re on the road. Check out the safety features included in Honda Sensing:

  • Forward Collision Warning – This feature monitors the area in front of your vehicle using radars, and if a potential forward collision is detected, an audible warning will sound to alert the driver to take corrective action.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow – You can present a following distance when cruise control is activated. If your vehicle gets too close to a vehicle ahead of you, then reduce the throttle and apply the brakes to regulate your speed and distance.
  • Traffic-Sign Recognition System – By using a camera mounted on the front of your vehicle, this feature will monitor posted traffic signs like stop and speed limit signs and display the sign on your dashboard.
  • Lane-Keeping Assist System – Your vehicle uses radars to detect lane markings and then will help keep your vehicle centered in the detected lane.
  • Road Departure Mitigation System – This feature will monitor the lane markings, and if it detects an unintentional lane change, it will alert the driver and then make the necessary steering adjustments to put you back in the lane.
  • Collision Mitigation Braking System – If a potential collision is detected, your vehicle will automatically apply the emergency brakes to prevent the collision or to lessen the impact of the collision.

There are also several safety and driver-assistance features available on Honda vehicles that are not included in Honda Sensing, such as:

  • Cross Traffic Monitor – This feature will monitor your surroundings when you are reversing out of a driveway or parking spot, and if cross traffic is detected, then a sequence of beeps will sound to alert the driver.
  • Auto High-Beam Headlights – When your headlight lever is on low-beam and switched to AUTO, your vehicle will monitor your surroundings for approaching vehicles. Then, it will switch automatically between high and low beams.
  • Blind-Spot Information System – This feature will scan your blind spot when the turn signal is activated, and if a vehicle is detected in the blind spot, a visual and audio warning will alert the driver.
