There are several landmarks commemorating this history that are worth a visit. Here are historic landmarks in Omaha to explore this spring. General Crook House Museum Constructed in 1879, the General Crook House once served as a grand home for General George Crook, a hero of the Civil War and National Indian Wars. Crook was also commander of the Department of the Platte while he was living in Omaha. The Department of the Platte oversaw military operations in Iowa, Nebraska, the Dakota Territory, and the Utah Territory. When you visit the museum, you'll enjoy viewing decorative arts, costumes, and the restored garden. Malcolm X Memorial Foundation Located in the heart of North Omaha, the Malcolm X Memorial Foundation sits on the site of the influential civil rights leader's place of birth. Born in 1925, Malcolm X (born Malcolm Little) was sent to live with relatives and eventually ended up in a series of foster homes after the death of his father. While the house he was born in no longer stands, the Memorial Foundation runs a museum and education center where you can view artifacts related to pivotal moments in Malcolm X's life and the Civil Rights movement. An official State of Nebraska historical marker also commemorates the site. These are just two of the many historic landmarks in Omaha you'll want to visit this spring.

Summer Exhibits at Henry Doorly Zoo

Image via Pixabay.com One of the best things about living in Omaha, Nebraska, is that there are so many fun things to do, including exploring the Henry Doorly Zoo. Summer is a great time to visit because many exhibits that were closed over the winter reopen and the animals are more active when it's warm outside. Here are two exhibits you can look forward to. Hubbard Gorilla Valley After a temporary closure due to renovations, the popular Hubbard Gorilla Valley reopens this summer. This 3-acre exhibit gives the resident gorillas 2 acres to play and socialize while visitors enjoy their antics. What makes this exhibit so unique is that the gorillas run free while the zoo's human guests watch them from enclosures strategically placed throughout the grounds. These enclosures allow visitors to get up close and personal with the gorillas without interfering with their routines. Deer Park Lagoon Originally, Deer Park Lagoon served as an ice skating rink and fishing pond in Riverview Park before the park was transformed into Henry Doorly Zoo. Today, it's the summer home for several of the zoo's monkeys. The spider monkeys, howler monkeys, and squirrel monkeys love to swing from the branches of the artificial Banyan tree that sits in the middle of the lagoon. Many of the zoo's monkeys give birth in the spring, so keep an eye out for mothers and their little ones. Hundreds of koi also live in the lagoon, and you can feed them pellets from the covered bridge. These are just two of the many exciting exhibits you can enjoy at Henry Doorly Zoo. Plan a summer visit for an experience the entire family will enjoy.

The 2017 Honda Ridgeline: 3 Ways Honda Is Reinventing the Pick-Up

Ridgeline AWD RTL-T shown in Lunar Silver Metallic with accessory roof rails and running boards. The updated 2017 Honda Ridgeline doesn't just raise the bar for Honda trucks - it raises the bar for all trucks. The newest iteration comes with some huge updates, including but not limited to increased towing capacity, new technology, and a new body style. Let's take a look at 3 of the biggest shakeups the Ridgeline brings to the table. New Tailgate Design A tailgate's a tailgate, right? You might think so, but the 2017 Honda Ridgeline isn't any old tailgate. You can drop it down just like a traditional pick-up gate, or (and here's where things get interesting) you can swing it open from the driver's side just like a station wagon. Not only that but there's an additional built in storage trunk built right into the bed that gives you even more storage space and versatility. That storage trunk has a built in lock, so you'll have some extra peace of mind when leaving your tools or tailgating supplies in it. Increased Storage Capacity So, we've already talked about the secret storage trunk in the bed, but that's not all the Ridgeline has to offer when it comes to storage. The inside of the cab is roomy and comfortable, and manages to pack in even more storage in the form of a flip-up rear seat that can hold a lot - up to and including a golf bag. The bed is 4 inches longer than on the 2016 model and is even wide enough that it can safely and comfortably hold a 4x8 sheet of wood flat in between the wheel wells. Technology If you're in the market for a truck that has all the creature comforts and ease of driving you'd expect from a crossover, but need the storage capacity and towing ability of a truck - look no further than the 2017 Honda Ridgeline. Inside the cab you'll find a built in 8-inch touchscreen display that can control the entertainment system, support for Apple Carplay and Android Auto, 3-zone climate control, and rear seating with a 60/40 split with a flat-load floor. Not only that, but the rearview camera is a step up from the previous model and even includes multi-angle views. The upper trim-levels even include blind-spot monitoring! There are a lot of options when it comes to midsize trucks, but if you're looking for one that doesn't just measure up but raises the bar for years to come, look no further than the 2017 Honda Ridgeline. With its combination of technology, capability and comfort, the 2017 Honda Ridgeline is a truck of its own class.
