Omaha’s exciting history offers many unique opportunities for locals and visitors alike. From passenger trains of the 1940s and ’50s to a Civil War General’s home, and birthplace of Civil Rights leader Malcolm X, you are sure to find something for everyone.
The Durham Museum
Located in the art deco Union Station, the Durham Museum is home to an array of exhibits including storefronts of the 1940s, restored train cars, and rare coins and documents from the Byron Reed collection. Also, they host traveling exhibits from the Smithsonian, Library of Congress, Chicago’s Field Museum and the National Archives.
General Crook House Museum
Once standing guard over Fort Omaha, The General Crook House Museum is now a unique location for holiday parties, business meetings, rehearsal dinners, and, of course, wedding receptions. Comfortably able to welcome up to 180 guests for appetizers and cocktails, and 80 people for sit-down dining inside the museum, your guests will not soon forget this experience.
Malcolm X Birth Site
Omaha native and civil rights leader Malcolm X continues to be honored by The Malcolm X Memorial Foundation as well as the state of Nebraska with an educational memorial, beautiful plaza, and historical marker at the location of his birth. While the 14-acre outdoor memorial is open, a call is requested to schedule your visit to the Malcolm X Center.
