The Honda Civic has a long history in the automotive world. Today, the 2020 Civic still carries the torch lit back in the day for a quality ride with added improvements along the way.

Civic History

The Honda Civic was first introduced in 1972 and first sold in 1973 in the United States. It made an immediate impression due to its many differences not seen in small domestic cars.

The Civic came packaged as a sedan and a three-door hatchback both with a casual-looking exterior, ample room for four, front-wheel drive, a suspension system that was fully independent. It was lightweight and to get the point across it was fun to drive, Honda used the tagline “it’ll get you where you’re going.”

The Civic had a zippy 52-horsepower, which increased to 53 horsepower using compound vortex controlled combustion and eventually 55 horsepower. The car was also upgraded to a 5-speed manual transmission.

2020 Honda Civic

For 2020, the Civic is still available as a sedan or hatchback both with several trims. The Civic has a variety of interior features that weren’t part of the past such as a 5-inch color LCD screen, Bluetooth streaming audio, and 160-watt audio system fitted with four speakers.

Engine-wise, the Civic is equipped with either a 1.5-liter or 2.0-liter 4 cylinder engine, a continuously variable transmission (CVT), and a 6-speed manual transmission. Horsepower for the two engines has increased significantly and ranges between 158 to 180.

While many upgrades to the body, technology, power, and performance have taken place through the decades, the one thing that hasn’t changed is the quality craftsmanship that still holds true.

As springtime approaches and the temperatures start to rise, drivers will be turning their air conditioners on for the first time in months. Sometimes we can come across unexpected noises or issues when we use a system again after a long break. Here are three common problems that can cause your car’s air conditioner to rattle.

  1. Failing AC Compressor

Before the refrigerant that causes your AC system to blow cool air can be pumped into the condenser, it needs to undergo intense pressure. This is the job of the AC compressor. The AC compressor can become worn over time, requiring replacement.

  1. Worn Serpentine Belt

The serpentine belt is connected to many of your car’s accessories, like the air conditioning, alternator, power steering pump, air pump, and more. This belt can become worn over time leading to poor tension and noises like rattling or squeaking. Find the serpentine belt and look for any signs of wear.

  1. Bad Idler Pulley

Idler pulleys are used to guide, connect, and create tension for the various engine drive belts that run with your vehicle’s engine. So, your serpentine belt that connects engine power to the air conditioner may be fine, but the idler pulley that runs with it may need to be replaced. High mileage vehicles will likely need a replacement pulley, but this is a fairly inexpensive fix.

Don’t put up with faulty parts or annoying noises in your car, know what to look for and how to fix it. Understanding your vehicle and keeping up with its needs will help it last longer and make for more enjoyable drives.

Potholes are common on many roads, especially throughout the spring season as winter ice thaws and leaves gaping holes in the asphalt. Driving through a pothole can cause serious damage to your vehicle, especially if you hit it fast. Here are three tips for avoiding potholes.

  1. Maintain Distance Between Cars

In order to see upcoming potholes and have time to react, you’ll need to leave space between you and the vehicle in front of you. You’ll also need to slow down and stay alert. If you’re on a road surface that hasn’t been well-kept throughout the seasons, be hyper-aware.

  1. Don’t Drive Through Puddles

A puddle can be deceptive. With dark, dirty water, there’s no way to tell how deep it is. It’s always better to avoid a puddle than to drive through it. A little puddle may be disguising a massive pothole. You should always take it easy while driving on wet roads, so this creates even more incentive to take your time and be careful.

  1. Use Waze

Thanks to modern technology, we can have live driving condition information right at our fingertips at all times. The Waze app is a great resource for being informed about the road ahead. Other drivers connected through the app report things like accidents, road closures, stopped vehicles, and even potholes. As you’re on your way to your destination, the app will pop up alerts about potential road issues.

Potholes are terrible for your tires, wheels, and the body of your vehicle. Use these tips and stay aware to try to avoid damage.
